Cast your eye over the hip streets of east London and one thing leapfrogs out of the leopard-print-wearing, leather-bikered-up, chain-smoking crowd; no one has twenty-twenty vision. How else to explain the sea of glasses adorning every rouge-lipped and moustachioed face?
For while west Londoners fête the latest bag or shoe, over in Shoreditch, geek-chic glasses are the accessories to flaunt for both girls and guys. And the hottest frames of the moment? Those by new label Prism.
The brainchild of fashion editor Anna Laub, Prism’s sleek, unisex specs (£205) take their style cues from vintage frames from the Fifties and Sixties, as well as the clean lines of Bauhaus architecture.
Each pair is named after a city - Rio (“sexy and curvy”, says Laub), New York (“classically cool”), Rome (“classic with a Mod-style twist”), Paris (“coquettish”) and London (“cool but a bit more edgy”) - and are hand-cut and –finished in Italy. Fashion-forward celebrities including model Amber Le Bon, singer Roisin Murphy and Kanye West, no less, have already sported versions.
